Richard joined the firm in 2012.  While in law school, Richard served as senior editor of the Alabama Law Review and authored a published note.  Prior to joining the firm, Richard worked for a civil defense firm in Southwest Georgia representing trucking, construction, and insurance companies.

Having represented clients in trials involving claims of tens of millions of dollars in federal court to arguing before the South Carolina Supreme Court, Richard has the experience to address virtually any litigation matter from the beginning of a claim to a final resolution.   Richard has represented clients from individual defendants to publicly traded corporations, which has given him the ability to address litigation concerns facing clients of all sizes.   ​

Richard is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, and is married to Stephanie Shivers McLawhorn.  Richard and Stephanie have three children.  They are active members of First Baptist Church.  Richard also stays involved with his alma mater, North Greenville University, where he serves on the board of trustees.
